Comparison
These tools answer different questions. Choosing between them is easier once you know which question you have, and none of them replaces a mechanically sound build.
| Tool | Best at | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| Easyquadtune | Turning a log into a before/after tune and a CLI script for Cine, Freestyle and Race, with the evidence printed next to each change. | It will not tell you why a motor is hot for mechanical reasons, and it cannot know your AUW or prop size from the log. |
| PIDtoolbox | Deep manual analysis of step response and spectrum, with full control over how the curves are computed. | It stops at the plots. The mapping from plot to a specific set of CLI values is left to the pilot. |
| Betaflight Blackbox Explorer | Looking at the raw traces frame by frame, including timing and motor output. | It is a viewer. It does not measure a step response or propose a tune. |
| Manual tuning | Feel, and any change that depends on how the aircraft behaves in the pilot's hands. | It cannot separate two causes that look identical in the air. That is what the log is for. |
If you want to compute the step response yourself, choose the window, and read the spectrum with your own settings, PIDtoolbox is the more direct tool. Easyquadtune makes those choices for you and shows its work; if you would rather make them yourself, that is a legitimate preference, not a gap in the product.
When the question is "what do I type into the Configurator, and why". The output is a before/after table with provenance, three profile variants from one log, and a CLI block. The measurement is not hidden; it is the argument for the change.
They all depend on the log containing the manoeuvres that make a measurement meaningful. A log without a held step input cannot support a chart-grade step response, whichever tool reads it. That is why log quality is the first page to read.
One real log, every section of the report, published with the numbers that came out of the engine.
